Calcutta State Transport Corporation

Calcutta State Transport Corporation ((ベンガル語:কলকাতা রাষ্ট্রীয় পরিবহণ সংস্থা), CSTC) is a West Bengal state government undertaken transport corporation. Headquartered in Kolkata it was set up on 31 July 1948.〔 It plies buses in Kolkata and the nearby districts of West Bengal with some long distance services. CSTC owns 11 depots in Kolkata and some more outside in the districts to station .
== History ==
Calcutta State Transport Corporation started its journey on 31 July 1948 as State Transport Services with an objective to provide efficient, adequate, economical and properly coordinated passenger bus service particularly in and around the city of Kolkata and in the state of West Bengal in general. On 15 June 1960 the name of State Transport Service has changed to Calcutta State Transport Corporation(CSTC) under the Road Transport Corporation Act, 1950.
By 1966-6graded its service and connects 90 percent of the national highways. To fulfil the demand of rural passengers, CSTC introduced a Long Distance Bus Service (LDS) from Calcutta to Digha in April 1968.
As the part of its expansion programme CSTC was able to set up number of bus routes in the southern part of the West Bengal which were not connected to any means of transport. Apart from this, CSTC is operating a huge fleet of buses in the northern part of the Kolkata, adjoining Calcutta to Siliguri, Calcutta to Malda, Calcutta to Raigunge, Calcutta to Balurghat, Calcutta to Farakka, Calcutta to Khajuria-Ghat.〔 C.S.T.C has also started operating a fleet of Volvo 8400 series buses that cause much less pollution than the aging buses already in use for a long time.
Air conditioned buses have also been launched as of July 2014 by CSTC on 40 different routes across the city and suburbs. They are in blue and white livery and is a complete fleet of Volvo 8400 model and JanBus (AC) from Ashok Leyland, bought under JNNURM scheme.
Around 450 JanBus, world's first, has been launched from 30 July 2014. These buses have been manufactured by Ashok Leyland〔http://epaperbeta.timesofindia.com/Article.aspx?eid=31812&articlexml=City-gets-bus-fleet-the-world-is-waiting-30072014002038〕
